The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald - 1385 Words
The Great Gatsby, written by R. Scott Fitzgerald follows the story of a man by the name of Nick Carraway. Nick tells the story of his life while meeting the wealthy, esteemed Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby always aspired to be rich and live the lifestyle that came along with it. As Gatsbyââ¬â¢s character becomes more in depth it is learned that he was in love with a rich woman named Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby meet a few years prior and fell in love. The problem was Gatsby was in no way wealthy. Someone of Daisyââ¬â¢s status could never be with a man like that. The two lovers eventually end up having to part ways. While Jay Gatsbyââ¬â¢s life might seem like a dream with all of the money, fancy house parties, and pompous, high and mighty people itââ¬â¢s not so muchâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This meeting eventually rekindled Daisyââ¬â¢s feelings for Gatsby and they start a secret relationship. This complicates things because Daisyââ¬â¢s Husband is not happy to find out what has been taking place between them. The climax of the story is when Tom confronts Gatsby about his relationship with Daisy. Tom tells Gatsby that he canââ¬â¢t be with Daisy anymore and that their affair has to stop. He also tells Gatsby ââ¬Å"You must be crazy!â⬠(to think that Daisy still loves him). In this moment in the book Daisy makes the choice to stay faithful to her husband. Yet again choosing Tom over Gatsby. Maybe Gatsby will never be enough for her. The conclusion is Daisy choose to stay with Tom. Daisy said ââ¬Å"Even I canââ¬â¢t say I never loved Tom.â⬠This is Daisy realizing that even though there was something between her and Gatsby she will always love her husband. The Protagonist of the story is Gatsby. The story shows him with the constant struggle of trying to change himself to appease Daisey and gain her attention. The antagonist of the story is Tom. Tom represents all of the qualities that Gatsby aspires to have. Tom is wealthy, popular, and has a great reputation. These are all things that Gatsby thinks he needs to posses in order to win over Daisey. Jay Gatsby is considered a round character. The reader can see many different sides of Gatsby. The reader can see how loving and caring he is while they also see how mysterious and obsessive he can be.
